Are bees allowed? YES. There is no code. City staff encourages bee keepers to be a respectful neighbor, getting consent, using setbacks, supplying a water source, etc.

EXCEPT Africanized bees are not allowed per Title 8 Police regulations Ch. 4 Animal Control Sec 1. Definitions

PROHIBITED ANIMALS: The following genus/species of animals are hereby declared to be prohibited: …K. Apidae; specifically Africanized strains of the Apis Mellifera honey bee.

If a nuisance was called: Staff encourages neighbors to resolve problems.

Additional notes: Beekeeping that become neglectful may fall under Animal Control:

F. Vermin And Pests:

1. Conditions which are conducive to the harborage or breeding of vermin.

2. Infestations of vermin, such as rats, mice, skunks, snakes, bats, starlings, pigeons, bees, wasps, cockroaches or flies.

Non-standard hours:  10:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. M-F and 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Sat.
